14th Annual Collector Car Show
Presented by:
The Santa Cruz Valley Car Nuts Club
Jan 12, 2008

tubac_08_24.JPG.jpgOn cold, clear Saturday morning at the cross roads of Old Nogales Hiway and Sahuarita Road. Juanis waits for 1SinSol, Rando67, AzWildcatSol and Elad. The sun rises enough to light the southbound hiway to the Tubac Golf and Resort, site of the 14th annual Collector Car Show, presented by the Santa Cruz Valley Car Nuts Club. The TucsonRoadsters view a parade of colorful Minis, MGs, Austin-Healeys, Corvettes, PT Crusers, T-Bucket Fords, Porches, T-Birds, Jags, Ferraris, Trikes, Woodys, Mercedes, Fiats, Bugs,  and a Porche Diesel farm tractor on a flatbed as they transit the frosty morning roads.

The quick sprint to the Tubac Golf and Resort finds the Master of the Car Show cordoning the five hundred or so car show entrants into a sunny parking lot as the show officials await warmer temperatures on the Driving Range.

Word comes that Madmods will not be in attendance today. New sideskirt body work and fresh paint on his customised Turbo Solstice 430 roadster did not pass a driving test late Friday afternoon. The three Solstice and a sunshine yellow Sky are entered in the Sports Car Division.

Some twenty three sports cars make up the line of gleaming machines in the Sports Car Division on the soft grass of the driving range. Chalk lines and spent golf balls mark the display area. The quartette ready their roadsters for the car show crowd. Immediately, gathering the attention of all in sight.

tubac_08_10.JPG.jpgEach person in attendance today receives a ballot with instructions to select their favorite automobile in each of the 22 divisions of the Car show. Voting ends at noon and the festivities continue with music, car stories, and show coverage provided by KGVY Radio. The collector automobiles were stunning in the mid-day sunlight. Several faces showed a little color from winter sun-rays.

Lunch from the Tubac Golf and Resort Restaurant was a delicious serving of fajitas, chile rellenos con queso, tostadas and salsa rojo.

While each automobile was a favorite today, the ballots were tallied to reveal the top three in each division. The Solstice and Sky were quite the buzz today. They received many long looks and strong complements. However, our roadsters were junior competition when matched with the venerable senior roadsters in this division. The crowd favorite in the Sports Car Division today was captured by a 1927 Pristine White Bugatti Roadster. The second and third finishers were a lovely pair of 1965 Custom Cobra Roadsters.

tubac_08_11.JPG.jpgIn the last quarter of sunlight, the quartette in their show colors calls this a day and head north to the Tucson city lights. Thank you Santa Cruz Valley Car Nuts for a wonderful Collector Car Show. The roadsters are planning their return next year.
